If you want to know what’s better Phase One or Hassel Bad have a look at the latest Luminous Landscape Article. I love my Phase One and if you want one yourself go see Benny @ Team Digital.
Also you want to have a look at this Salt ‘SALT’ Screening on ABC 1 Tuesday Evening 23/3/2010 10.00pm. Murray Fredericks work is superb and he uses a Phase!!

I’m not sure that comparing the H3D 50 multishot with the phase one p65+ is right considering the phase camera is much younger than it’s counterpart!! The real test will come when the p65+ is compared to HD4 60!! However I will agree with one thing that is the metering system in the Hasselblad is awful!! We found this problem when testing it out the Hasselblad. We found the hasselblad to be out by more than 2.5 stops!! We had Daniels light meter out there & I’m glad we did!! I certainly hope they consider fixing this problem with the Hasselblad!! This is only thing stopping me from buying the Hasselblad at this point in time is the metering system. Anyone considering buying the Hasselblad should consider this problem before investing their life savings as we are not talking just $5000 we are talking 10 times this amount!! However everything else with Hasselblad in my opinion certainly stacks up to that of the phase including the optics!! Anyway this my opinion & I have certainly not ruled out buying the phase!!
Wonder what the flexirent is on the Phase one
Good one Matt
Thanks for the tip on SALT, will watch it next week.
Usually don’t reply to myself but if you go to:
http://www.saltdoco.com/index.htm
he has a trailer on there and to see his photography:

great photography, if you like the minimalist approach, which I do.
Not really my cup of tea. Love the storm shots… but all that shooting into the horizon isn’t my thing. Looks nice but I like a detailed landscape that’s well composed and discovered. But that’s just me. I’m sure he has more killer landscapes in his collection, that arn’t on the site.
Two points.
Murray Fredericks work is superb , i’ve seen it
And I will buy a p65 ……… in a few years time , second hand , when they are $3000.
I did a course for a guy you had a phase one back for his commercial work. He paid $40 grand for it and said it was now worth $10. It was quite and early model (he had it on the back of a MF film camera) and he said the quality still beat 5D MkII.
Arhhh CF I have been considering a medium format since uni days (before digital) and now I am really considering it as with a digital back its nearly ( I say nearly) within reach. I wonder if the Phase One will come down in price as quickly as new release DSLR’s? Not likely hey?- just wishful thinking on my part! I will dare to dream..
Congratulation on the new camera, you hinted you were after one when I last saw you in October. Look forward to seeing wHat you get out of it in Karijini next month.
Hi CF
Upgrading at any level is always problematical. Am I going to get bang for my buck? Will it do any better than what I currently use etc etc.
Given that your obvious talent and experience mean that your subject selection, composition, choice of light etc etc are pretty spot on, what exactly does the Phase One give you that your ‘old’ Canon doesn’t ?
Michael the Phase one is like going from a compact to a dslr. The quality and dynamic range can only be appreciated at 100% on the screen or on a large print. It is so awesome opening the raw files and seeing what you have captured. I don’t need to bracket exposures as there is so much detail even really contrasty scenes can be captured with lots of detail. I can also get great shots of the water without having to stitch.
Also there is the ego factor!! Think of the crocodile dundee scene, ……… thats not a camera!!! haha
I used to feel pretty confident pulling the old Fuji out of the bag, now it is the same with the Phase
Salt was very cool, Love seeing landscapes photogs with that much passion.
Wow, that’s educational! Bang goes the idea of using a HD multi-shot for my low-light / nightime architectural work…
No matter what I do with my 5D I find fine detail in the images to be soft with blurry edges to buildings, etc, which I thought the HD multi-shot would remedy.
Fletch – how do your sunrise/sunset low light images come out with the Phase 1?
