Ok, Ok I know this place has been shot to death but it is in my backyard in fact only a 10 minute drive from my front door. I had the choice of going for a bike ride in 80kmph winds or go take some pics. Sorry to my riding buddies, work got in the way! Some times you just have to leave the lycra at the door.
Shot with the Phase One of course. Unfortunately as this was a 30 second exposure the image isn’t as sharp as I would have liked also I didn’t stack the focus on this one. I will print it today and take to the Phase one night being held at Team Digital. If you want to see it in the flesh come and say hello.
P65+, 45mm Phase lens, 645df and my trusty Gitzo tripod that I am falling in love with!

It certainly is a beaut capture there Christian…love the colouring as well. nice one
Really nice, Christian. Love the orange across the sky.
Not to shabby at all. I guess with this focus stacking for sharpness that stitching is going to be difficult. But with a 300mb single file why stitch anyway ?
Dont think it matters how many sugarloaf pics there are, there always good to look at!
I agree with Matt….actually I agree with both Matts!
Hmm bike ride in gusty wind or taking photos…no brainer!
Very nice – like lycra, you can never have enough SugarLoaf. I can never get this view from the driver’s seat – you must have been in the passenger’s seat I guess. The depth in the shot is fantastic.
There seems to be quite atonal change between the thumb and the full size image. I do prefer the thumb size tones myself … Nice cloud movement as well …
didn’t even know sugarloaf rock had a rock, i went there and all I saw was a mountain of tessellating tourists in a pyramid formation. No freak king waves either…
Love Sugarloaf Rock don’t mind how many images I see of it and have a tidy collection myself from over the years. Got a bit prickly when I saw Peter Eastways version..it was good but I thought what the flip is here doing there!! Must be a territorial thing for a rock? Fab image CF, well done.
I agree with Neal,
It seems a little over saturated to me and i think a duller/less saturated foreground would really help….
but that might just be me…
Like this image a lot, considering the image that came into my mind of you in Lycra, (not good) hehe……
CF,
It has a very painterly quality to it that a hyper-sharp focus would detract from. I like it the way it is.
Looks really good Christian, the softer focus gives it a dreamy look. I like it a lot.
Cracking shot, unfortunately I could not get to this spot when I visited Dunsborough last year, the road was closed
Does the medium format not give as much DOF, kind wonder why you would need to focus stack this shot?
It is a spectacular location so if it was in my backyard I would shoot it quite often too! This is good, a bit too long exposure for me but nice dreamy look though. Reminds me I have to post my Sugarloaf shots
No Ian it doesn’t, so if you want lovely DOF you need to stack the focus. Not a real problem with dlsr’s. I believe it is because the sensor is so much bigger.
Ah yea, thats the one. Now that you said it I remember reading about that in relation to the tiny sensors that are used in phone cameras etc and how they produce massive DOF making focus less of an issue.
Tis a lovely shot anyway, very painterly (if that is even a word) …
NICE image CF – I always feel that with stunning locations in your backyard it just means you have more chance to shoot the spots with amazing light and conditions and it’s not a disappointment if the light busts as you can go there anytime you want… Interesting about needing to stack to the focus. I’d love to see some of this work in the flesh !
I never get tired at looking at this rock. I love this shot.
Sweet Mate!
