Well it is almost here and for those who are keen to get into medium format digital at an affordable price this will be a camera that could revolutionize the industry. You can see it at Team Digital tomorrow for a special unveiling. Check out the Team Digital blog for more details.
Just think ,if it is as good as the Phase One, I have just blown my dough and you guys can rub it in for years to come!
I’m pretty excited to see where this technology is going and what it might mean for Canon and Nikon dslr’s

As a long time Pentax user always looking at those Canon 5D mkII & Nikon D700, in the market with envy. Always thinking while am I not shooting 35mm Digital! The 645D is something I am so glad happened for Pentax. When Hoya took control of Pentax a few years ago I had a fear they might do a slash & burn.. Then sell the bits off to someone like Samsung.. But it looks like Hoya wants to bring Pentax back as a PRO brand. I am so glad I had the faith to hold onto my 645 primes.. What I like about the 645D is that it has all the features of the K-7 minus the shake reduction.. I think the 645D should come out in more colours like the KX.. LOL.
I must admit I have been waiting to see what happens with this one!
It seems very affordable but how good will it be. Time will tell.
BTW you haven’t blown your dough mate. What ever you by today be it a car or a camera will depreciate quicker than a falling stone! Wanna buy a Linhof 617 anyone? He he he.
Cheers
Dave
Certainly has some interesting specs: http://www.pentax.jp/english/news/2010/201008.html
As David says, you haven’t blown your money CF. That PhaseOne of yours is giving you the results you want. No use always waiting for the next big thing. However, the 645D has a decent LCD unlike the Phase One ;-p
Cheers,
André
hmm i wanna know how the glass performs!
have you really got a linhof for sale david?
I have played around with this already Cf though Kennedy’s the files are pretty damn good so are the optics
Certainly mixes things up a little!
Having had my eye on a D3x to replace my aging D3, this certainly grabs my attention! However, do any of you seasoned Pentax users know if there’s any tilt/shift lenses available for this system? I’m not sure I could part with my 24mm PC-E
Still lust for a P65+ with a technical camera… one day!
Pentax shmentax!!…. nah does sound good for the money.
Who needs a Phase or this when you have a Gigapan???
have you got one of them things?
I haven’t, don’t think Tom has but they will be out next week and I’ll be getting my hands on one to try out.
Mines on it’s way – they’re just sourcing a Aussie power source as the shipment arrived with US power! Go figure!
cool! cant wait to to the result!, i think the only bad thing about them is lugging it around everywhere
Pentax have only one lense for this camera so far!!
you can use all the older 645 lenses on it aswell
here is a link to some 100% crops i made from a pentax 645D file http://mitchellphotography.wordpress.com/2010/07/11/pentax-645d-100-crops/
I think so Mitcell, is that really how you spell your name??
what do you think so ?? im lost
ohh bhahah nope i forgot the “H” lol, thanks for telling me
I’ll be interesting to see what Nikon and Canon do in response to the Pentax in the “consumer” (given that it is more affordable that the phase ones of this world) level of medium format digital cameras..
it would be wicked if nikon bought out a MF camera!!, iv been waiting for a d700 x/s to come out, but its not looking good lol
Nice to know that there is a value for money medium format camera that can compete with a Phase One.
