Now at first glance you see a couple of fellas taking a nice photo up at Mount Buffalo. Now look closer, no not at my grey hair, who the hell is on the wrong side of the safety fence??? None other than resident adventure man Markie Mark Stothard. Now as a veteran of over 3000 parachute jumps this was no big deal………… to him. I had gravy stains in my jocks and after several attempts to encourage him back off the edge of the slippery rocks I relented. Then my competitive streak kicked in, maybe he will drop his camera off the side and then I had a better chance of winning the Alpine Challenge. Unfortunately he didn’t and now the bastard has been voted with the top photo from the trip of the autumn tree in Mount Beauty.
Goes to show with a DSLR and balls of steel anything is possible. I was happy with my safe spot, ok I didn’t win any challenges but I still have the camera everyone wants. With a phase and marshmallow balls you can still achieve greatness.
On ya Markie youdahellman!!
Oh I must thank Tom Tommy Putt for the photo, he was kind enough to shoot a few pics of us for our adoring fans! And secretly for himself. yikes, don’t even want to go there!! Love ya Tommy!

Very funny Mate!
…as he says rolling around with laughter!
That was a great trip and I very much enjoyed the company of all the lads and the friendly rivalry!
Thanks to Tommy boy for driving us around everywhere.
Looking fwd to the next adventure very soon!
Markie Mark!!!
Come on CF you gotta do what you gotta do to get the best angle. Apparently Mark never leaves home without his parachute anyway! He he
It has come in handy on a number of occasions Dave…like when I was stuck in Hong Kong when True North left for the West Coast trip a couple of years ago without me.
I had my wife meet me at the airport with my rig, had a jump plane meet me there as well and I flew to the Abrohlis and jumped in landing on Turtle Island and then carried on with the trip….now that’s why you jump out of a perfectly good plane eh…coz you can!!!
The blown out highlight on your head buddy!!!! hehehehe
hehe, Dave I think you would be on that side of the fence too somehow!!
Markie your nuts!!
I am so…I resemble that!
Mark…you’re crazy! you probably had a jetpack on under your jacket ‘just in case’. Chrisitan, you’re on the RIGHT side of the barrier but I still don’t reckon I wouldv’e been standing that close to the edge…I’d be worried that the fence might collapse. Yes, I too am a wuss when it comes to heights, flying…erm just about everything actually…but then I do have the excuse that I’m a girl
Mmmm, that is a shear drop off there for 1000ft + but I guess it lives up to Marks motto……..mad bastardo
No the motto is Andrew…’if you’re not living on the edge, you are taking up too much space’!!!
thats why I’m on a diet so I can take up less space! keeps me away from the edge :-0)
Sandy you can come shooting with me
Andrew it was foggy so it only looked to be a few meters, the hang gliding ramp was a bit of a give away though!
Mark stop being so silly. You could fall and hurt yourself then one of us little Community newspaper photographers will have to come out and take a shot of the scene. Then again might make for a good story especially if you parachute to safety.
Nice Mark, where’s your base rig hey?
Are you sure that is Mark? The person in the photo has got proper shoes on.
Awesome image and funny story fellas
My SuperMarkie shot has him high up a very steep rock at Sugarloaf. Mark, it’s pretty bloody inspiring and alluring to live on the edge, can I come skydiving as well please always wanted to do that! Btw I read that Mark was Batman’s stunt double in Dark Knight, Mark did that jump out of a Hong Kong highrise with just a pair of wings for real
Btw Mark, sign me up for that “Parachuting onto True North” event. It’s my first time on True North, I think I should enter in styel!
Christian you had no choice, if you took one step closer to the edge anyway, the Phase One would freak out, the danger detection system would go on and the Phase One would run for home, where it was built (the Carlsberg brewery!)
What’s wrong with this photo? I thought you were going to say the fact that Mark is wearing shoes. Or are they photoshopped on?
Jamie
What”s wrong with this picture? I thought you were going to say the fact that Mark is wearing shoes. Or is he? Perhaps those shoes have been photoshopped on.
Jamie
Hazel, it was all under control all of the time I assure you! I have many more adventures to do yet before they scatter my ashes over Rotto!
Bryce…never been into BASE…too dangerous for me!!
Peter and Jamie…yes I was wearing proper shoes….it was cold dudes! Even I have to draw the line somewhere when its cold. Mongrel things caused me to roll my ankle in Tassy but! Jeeze I hate wearing shoes!
Bo, happy to arrange a tandem for you in Cairns…I have some contacts over there that do cool tandems up there…and no it wasn’t me who did the Batman stunt..although I do know the team who did the Dropzone and Terminal Velocity jumps very well…in fact I have done a lot of jumps with them.
And no Bo, we can’t jump into True North! I have been trying to get the heli pilots on True North onto that mission for a while, but Bureaucracy gets in the way big time! The only way I could do it at the Abrohlis was to take my own jump plane!
Skydiving in Cairns, yes yes, I really want to do that! I was being ironic about Batman as it’s CGI
How amazing are the drop scenes in Terminal Velocity, Drop Zone and of course Point Break. I guess I find skydiving and freediving so fascinating because it is flying and complete freedom in the air or water. Now I am finally getting the guts to do all this myself, attack that bucket list, sign me up for skydiving !
Btw I’m with you on absolutely hating shoes, it’s just my feet stil need some toughen the f#ck up pills
Mate, looks like your pretty close to needing a rig there
you mustn’t be far off!
P.S Has anyone ever asked you where you get your time from?? Both shooting + editing & posting… Someone would think you make a bit of coin of this like that Fletcher bloke
Yep you are talking about all my favorite movies right there Bo!
Yep we can organise Probably should do it before PNG so you are on a real high to kick off with!
Cheers,
Me
Hey Markie, Flem might like to go on your horse back adventure! Brokeback mountain style!!!
LOL !!! As if bloody tandem jumping with anoher bloke wasn’t pushing it already for comfort zone breach! LOL!!
Damn you Christian ! I had in my mind being all Jack Palance in City Slickers and you go and ruin the whole thing with this …. disturbing mental of your own!!! Not sure I wanna do cattle drive now
Did you have to go there Christian? lol
You’ll keep Christian!!!
Haha Flemming. Sounds like you and Markie have quite a few couple trips lined up.
Perfect CF, Hilarious !
Just let them borrow your feather boa !
You’ll keep to Jamie!
I don’t have a feather boa but Tommy Putt might be keen to go all BrokeBack Mountain with the boys. I could imagine him in his leather chaps and nothing else, as disturbing as that sounds!
I just had a wax today so I’m all buffed and ready for you Christian you hunk of spunk!
This conversation is just getting worse and worse!
you guys are a bit of a worry, glad you guys have give up on the sheep thing, now with brokeback mountian and cattle drives together, and all we see in the picture is CF bending over his P65, or so he says! I’m getting worried about coming back home. maybe this South Africa is a safer place.
Nigel, SA is safe as you only have murders there, we have men doing unfashionable things with other men! Come back we need some burly blokes. That Tom Putt even makes me look burly .
Tom you just made me very ill, thanks for that.
judging by CF’s stance here I think perhaps he already had a Brokeback Mountain experience??
Looks a little tender he does…. lol
“with a phase and marshmallow balls…” wahahahaha, love it… perhaps that should go on your lecture list of ‘what’s in my camera bag’…. Phase 1 – CHECK; Marshmallow Balls – CHECK…
Haha funny fellas, don’t worry Stephen I’m all man.
Good idea denis, I like that checklist.
What’s wrong with this photo? There is a grey-headed gent in an anorak getting in the way of a dedicated Canon shooting adventure photographer and they are both looking in the wrong direction when they could have turned around and photographed Australia’s self-proclaimed best looking star of the photographic stage and screen, the author of this image.
You are a crack up Muzz…aka Mutant!
