This is my take on the old hotel Markie and I shot in Coolgardie. Was a classic building and I thought long and hard about the final image I had in my mind. This is pretty much what the it said to me. Who would have thought they could build such beautiful things on the way to no where. All this image needs is an old guy in a wheelchair and I would be completely happy. Some major work went into this and I will show the workings at my next workshop. Whenever that will be.
Might have to do one soon before the Landscape 500 Competition finishes. Could inspire you to greater photographic pieces, or just bore you silly!!

you guys must have had your tripods on top of each other just about haha!
how was your interview yesterday aha?
Interview went well mate, got it done in one take.. Sorry I didn’t have time to talk. See you in Sydney.
Love it Christian, it’s come out really good.
Please don’t respond to Matt’s point, I don’t care to know who was on top of what :-0
Don’t worry andre it wasn’t that cosy!, hehe
Nice! But then again, so is camping out on the Noosa River enjoying a glass of red wine, which is what we’re doing right now. It’s a hard life but someone has to!
Not much beats that Steve, you lucky bugger.
Very cool PS work, I really like the look you ended up with here. The clouds are my favourite part
Clouds! Where did they come from!
Yep very nice mate…it just goes to show how very different the same shot can be between 2 individuals eh!
That’s for sure mate, muzz said I needed a dog in my shot. Theree was one there too, remember that kamakazi mutt playing chicken
Nice result Christian!
It’s a great look you’ve achieved here. Not sure about a guy in a wheelchair but a dog might do it! Were you tempted to get rid of the TV antenna?
I think the antenna will go Muzz
nice job
Great shot, It looks so good. So when you say alot of work went into it you mean purely from the photoshop side of things? What do you class as alot of work? I know you said you would cover it in your next workshop but curiosity gets the better of me and I’m just wondering what constitutes alot of work, that’s all. Don’t want the full rundown but some insight would be good.
Thanks Christian
Andrea the first thing I had to do was straighten the building using the skew command then crop and make a selection of the sky. After that it was layer adjustments to get the balance of the image right then into applying texture overlays, hue sat adjustments, burning dodging layers and adjustments to local contrast. The thing that takes the time is knowing what you want to achieve. The image starts very basic and all the flourishes that come after is my art. Hope that gives you some ideas. I might post the original so you can see where it started.
Hey Christian, If you could post the original that would be great. It’s just good to be able to see what it is that you’ve done.
Thanks
Andrea
Hey CF nice image not bad at all love the clouds and the atmosphere of the image brings it to another place really something like the old days. I was just wondering to if you do one on one sessions perhaps or maybe a shoot one day down that way when I home from my work on my week off perhaps
.
hi mate, one on ones I have thought about but it isn’t on the cards yet. I don’t have the time to allocate to it. A free shoot is always possible if I’m in town or not busy with family commitments. Let me know if your in town.
Thanks for the offer for a shoot CF I will let you know when I am down that way and if your free awesome if not another time eh
.
nice, concept is crazy, and the mood just screams to be part of a horror film
Brilliant CF, I think the antenna adds charm.
nice one christian the clouds in the background defiantly give it more mood thats for sure
me likey
Very nice Christian!
I just rolled into town after being in Karijini! Fiona says hello, said she new of a scoundrel called Christian Fletcher, sorry just had to name drop!
Cheers!
Love it.
I like that you still keep the detail in the shadow areas. Especially the verandah.
thanks guys.
How is Fiona, she is a great lady and has helped out heaps every time I head to Karijini.
Leigh, detail in the shadows is something the Phase makes easy. You spend that money for something I guess.
Ah…to have a phase…does anyone need a kidney?
Yes she is great! Very helpful, a fantastic host for sure.
not yet Leigh but I’ll keep you in mind for the future!!
Hey Guys, dumb question but how do you ad a photo like you all have in your little square next to your name?
