These Sculptures are fantastic models, bulimic, stand still and never complain. Oh and they are nude! Not that that interests me but I know there are some out there who like that! This is another slant on the trip to Lake Ballard with Markie Mark Stothard and David Davo Bettini. DRAW!!!!!
The Landscape 500 is now open and only 470 entries left!! Get in quick to win one of these awesome prizes. Go to the Landscape 500 website to enter and bask in the glory of being the best landscape shooter in Australia, well after me that is!!!

love it!
Long ago I saw a short doco on the guy who did them. Very clever man. He used local townspeople, short, tall old, young.
Just need to add some western music!
Very cool. Should be viewed with the theme from The Good, The Bad and The Ugly playing.
Yeah, they are nude …. and this is what it can do to you!!!

That’s a cool viewpoint. I was struggling to find cool/new ways of capturing these (wish I’d thought of this one)..
haha, that’s awesome. I really like it too.
i can imagine these wacky lil smiles on their faces too as they stare off.
great new idea!
Hi Everyone,
Christian said to jump on the blog and just write something off topic in any post so here I am. I’m Andrea and I suppose I’m the newbie so just thought I’d say hi and also wanted to tell everyone how much of a legend I think Jamie Paterson is, I know you all know him so I have to tell you about my adventure with Jamie.
I’ve been trying to find some landscape photographers to go and shoot with and to meet some new people who enjoy what I like to do and I found Jamie and Christian about the same time recently and I ended up organizing to go out with Jamie.
So this arvo I set off to met Jamie, we meet up, have a chat and off we go.
We get set up in this awesome place that Jamie knows and I’m super excited to be at the beach and to be shooting with someone else and also someone who I think takes awesome photo’s.
Start shooting, get wet up to my waist by a wave in about 2 minutes
Filter falls off a few shots later, try to wipe it but my cloth is wet from the wave and so is most of the bottom of my shirt, so being as innovative as I am, lol, I stretch my shirt around and use the back, finally get my filter clean and dry and get a few more shots
Move to get a different composition, totally satched up to my butt but I don’t care cause I’m having a blast , get off a few more shots and crap loose my filter again, dive to the right before it gets washed away so now my whole side and sleeve are soaked. Stuffed if I know why my filter is coming off.
So by now I can’t really find anything dry to wipe my filter with, so I’m stretching my shirt around and halfway up my back but all is good cause I’m still having a blast even though it takes me FOREVER to get it dry again and now it’s pretty much too late to get anything else.
Just about ready to go now cause we’re both freezing ours butts off and Jamie says look at the reflection, take a shot of that, so I set upthe shot , he showed me how to shoot bulb cause I haven’t done that one before and I’m stocked cause the shot is awesome.
Get in the car, get petrol, I’m freezing so I decide bugger this so I took my pant’s, jumper and shirt off and drove home in my undies and a singlet top with the heater cranked full pelt cause the thought of driving for 40 mins with my teeth chattering is just too much.
In the mean time Jamie gets in heaps of awesome shots, probably thinks I’m a nut job lol and I only get about 25 shots because of my filter malfunctions but I’m not complaining cause is was great to go out with him and bugger it I’ll go back tomorrow with my filter sorted and a towel.
So the moral of the story is that no matter how many times your filter falls off, for no apparent reason or how soaking wet you are and freezing cold it is just so worth it to get some great shots and have a great time.
Sorry it’s a long post but I just thought I’d share this with you all because I’m sure that everyone has a similar story somewhere along the line and you guys would appreciate the funny side of this.
Also I’d just like to say a HUGE thanks to Jamie for letting me tag along, showing me some new things and just for being a champ.
Thanks guys Andrea
Awww shucks Andrea. Thanks so much for a glowing write up and I swear I’ll hand over the bribe money later. Seriously, it was good fun and I’m really glad that you got some great shots! I’m pretty sure if I got down to my undies in the car I would’ve been pulled over and fined.
We’ll catch up soon for another shoot.
Jamie
Great story Andrea, Jamie is a top bloke and we have had some fun shoots together, just don’t get him talking about his navy days. I got soaked by a wave once when out shooting. Had to drive home without a shirt as that was wrapped around my camera getting it dry. It was cold too!,
Markie will tell you about some good soakings he has had! Welcome to the dare I say it, CLUB.
Cheers
No worries Jamie, your most welcome. Yah better save up a fair bit cause my bribe ratings are rather expensive.
Look forward to getting together again, next time I will have my filter sorted, 2 cloths to dry my camera just incase, my filter bag around my waist, a towel and of course the shower cap and then I’ll be a pro for sure lol
Thanks for the welcome to the CLUB Christian I look forward to getting to know you and the other guys too.
Andrea
Nailed the composition on this one CF, The title is spot on and I love that white sky It keeps the image simple and puts the focus on the subject better. In the last comp I entered I was told I lost points for having a plain white sky which I was a bit disappointed with. What are your thoughts on this ?
Hi pete, thanks for the comment. I think white sky ‘s have their place and if you look at a lot of great black and white work it has plenty of white sky’s. If the image is simple then it works really well. Some of my favorite images have white sky’s, including the recent one shot of the sunrise over the mountain range in the pilbara. I think the judges may have been a little harsh. Post up the image so we can have a look and make comments..
I love white skies at times. This works really well. Love this image. Is it male?
Very cool these sculptures make for very interesting subjects – and of course you have found a great angle!
Andrea that’s a funny story. I’m a newbie too – if you’re around Perth I’d be more than happy to go out for a shoot some time too!
haha Hazel, you crack me up. Yes I think two males all puffed up trying to out do each other. Sounds a lot like some of the blokes on this blog!! Not me of course.
Hi Joanna, as Hazel will agree it is great to have more girls on the blog. I prefer girls to spotty nerdy middle aged men! Again, I’m not talking about me of course!! haha
Hehe well i often read your blog Christian – it’s good for me to see what you pros are doing – helps me to learn. Still a very long way for me to go though!
the thing is Joanna, all of us are still learning. That is why it is so cool. You are at the beginning but this time next year you will be full bottle. Then it is all about developing your eye and your ideas. From that your style will develop.
Sounds very encouraging, thanks Christian! It’s just difficult to knwo where to start sometimes….this blog community is great though to get ideas and feedback.
Hey Joanne, I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post my email address or details so I will let Christian answer that one and I would love to get together, Yah go the girls. Photography seems to be such a male dominated industry for some reason, I reckon with landscape in particular it’s cause the kids are left at home with the Mrs and the guys can bugger of to take photo’s, lucky buggers I’m just jealous. lol
sorry ment Joanna
Haha that’s ok. Well I don’t have any kids just yet so that’s no worries for me! I’ll shoot you an e mail.
No Andrea you have got it wrong. Landscape is just easier and you know that the average male will take the easy way with anything. Only joking boys so don’t all get ya pants in a twist. Nice to see some girls posting.
hah, I always take the easy way,so there is some truth in that statement………….Hazel????
Hi anonymous,
Ah that’s funny but I gotta say if my hubby is anything to go by definately true, Christian I love that your honest about it most blokes will definately choose to Deny! Deny! Deny! Ah but you know maybe it’s a lesson for me to sometimes make things easier instead of thinking about it sooooo much so alas maybe you males do have something to teach us girls, but the way nobody is allowed to tell my hubby that I said that!! LOL
woops ment to be “BYE the way”
Ha ha yes it was me Christian. My details didn’t show? Andrea I don’t take may landscapes and one of the reasons is timing and family, saying that even if I did I couldn’t compete with some of these guys on here especially the man himself.
Hi Hazel,
Yeh I know what you mean about timing and family but I’m hoping to get a happy balance so that I can do what I really enjoy but still have quality time with my hubby and kids.
I know what you mean about some of the guys shots, you can’t help but compare yourself and it is a little daunting but I think youj just have to not compare and be able to say hey I’m not on there level but I’m happy with what I’ve done. I have taken a few shots lately that I am absolutely stoked with and I’m building up the courage to put those on facebook for everyone to see, just cause I say don’t compare yourself doesn’t mean it’s easy not to lol.
Andrea
When ever I get an ANON I know it is you now Hazel. haha
Well girls, do you know what, I feel daunted by other photogs too. But in the end as you say, you work to your best ability and over time you progress. I love the fact that photography is always changing and there is always a new challenge. It motivates me and gets me thinking. I have just been shooting with Brent Pearson. Man that guy knows heaps. He isn’t a “PRO” in the true meaning of the word but his work is better than most pros working today. I’m glad I don’t know everything yet, I love learning.
Andrea this time next year you will be mixing it with the boys and knocking them dead with your gorgeous images.
Hey Christian,
Even though I haven’t officially met you yet, this is what I like about you, your work is amazing and obviously you do know that but it’s so great that your not at all pretencious and you’re still so open to learning. I think it’s important to be because it would be a pretty bloody boring life if we were great at something and thought that we didn’t still need to learn more.
Thanks for the encouragement again and I’m sure I’ll have no probs giving those boys a run for their money in the near future ARE YOU READY BOYS? Just jokin but I gotta have some confidence don’t I?
Also glad to know that even pros get a little daunted by other photographers, it makes me feel normal.
andrea
Hey Andrea,
I’m ready! Bring it on! I’ll take you on in the ocean any day. Just joking. Looking forward to catching up for a shoot when I get back.
Jamie
Hey Jamie,
YEH I’m sure you’ll kick my a_s, I went today and my pants got soaked again, I just keep sitting in the flippin water, what is wrong with me? But hey I’m getting some great shots, well I think they are anyway lol. I was going to facebook you today to see how you were going and then I forgot, the story of my life. Hope your having a great trip and getting heaps of awesome shots. I’ll be in on a shoot with you anytime.
Talk soon
Andrea
us pros are just the same as you. we all get a little insecure and are, relatively speaking, still trying to get better. Don’t ever feel intimidated by anyone. They might be better shooters now but you never know, in the future you might just be kicking their butts!
Very true Andrea and Christian she’s right it is really refreshing to see someone like you has the time for us beginners. We can all learn a lot from you – both in photography and attitude…..
Awe shucks Joanna, you can come back anytime!! We need more girls on this blog like you. The blokes are never as nice, well except maybe for the famous metrosexual Tommy Putt. Thanks for making my day.
Always a pleasure
