What a great set of images!! There is certainly some amazing talent out there. I am by no means a pro but I know what I like and although these are all fantastic images I think that some of the pics in the bottom 50 are better than than some in the top 10. For example no.5 is an amazing surfing shot but could have been taken by anyone in the right place at the right time, whereas a shot like Tim Donnely’s at no.33 shows creative use of shutter speed, composition and also solid post production technique. I am by no means criticising Roberts shot, it is amazing but in the context of the competition I think it placed very highly over some other more deserving work. Who am I to speculate anyway? It must have been hard for the judges with so many excellent entries. Perhaps a people’s choice award next year?
It’s definitely inspiring to see the quality amongst amateurs out there. I’m hoping you can point me in the right direction on the Bunker Bay workshop.
We will set you straight Muzz, not that your bent or anything!
Lucy, the judging process is such that you only see one image at a time and put a score on it. Each judge does that. Now it depends on when you image is viewed as to how well it might be scored. The same happens at the Australian Professional Photography Awards. It is the luck of the draw sometimes. I agree a peoples choice award from the top 50 is probably a good idea for next year. Thanks for your input.
