My good mate Nick Rains is holding a printing workshop in Perth. If you want someone who really knows what he is talking about then Nick is your man.
Go to his blog here http://www.nickrains.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=164:canon-print-workshop&catid=17:workshops&Itemid=26 to get all of the details.

So Nick know what he’s on about hey?
No wonder he’s promoting a Canon printer… smart man!!!
btw, did you know all the Epson WAIPP best print award winners (all 3 print categories) were printed on the 6100 Canon!!!
no it is because Canon is getting behind him. The thing is he prints at home on Epson printers. I still have my old canon, that I will be selling, and it does great prints. However I have seen an improvement in prints from the 9900 and that is good enough for me to change. I printed my APPA entries on my Epson 3880 and did better than a lot of photographers I know, including Nick. Awards are more about luck than a pure test of consistent talent or printing prowess.
And the awards seam to favor a heavy photoshop hand as well Fletch by the looks of things, just look at the Landscape winner this year. Why even bother entering if that’s what wins. Less “Photography Skill” needed more “Photoshop Skill”.
Jumping off my soapbox now
yep it is pretty photoshop orientated, so it isn’t what sells. They need a category for best landscape photo that will sell.
I wouldn’t buy canon. apparently the print heads die quicker… Stick with the canon DSLR’s though!
Sounds like the new canon printers have managed to get to a similar colour gamut as the epsons. In the end it would be hard pressed to notice a difference. I just know you have better support buying an epson printer as there are more epson dealers and repairers around.. I have never had any problems with an epson printer but had problems with both of my canons. Hopefully that has been sorted in the new models.
I’m not sure about the relevance of how many of the winning prints were printed on the Canon. If it is relevant, I can confirm that all the category winners were printed with an Epson (for what it is worth).
I for one am really pleased that Canon has lifted their game in regards to their printers. It does put pressure on Epson to continue to make better printers and that’s what we have seen in the Epson Pro 4900. There are a few other points re purchasing a printer – service is one. I’m not sure if Canon has any for their large format printers, whereas Epson have 2 service agents.
Then there is the people supporting the product. We are passionate about our Epson printers. We have invested more time and money in supporting these printers than anyone else in WA. No matter what anyone says we are excited about the Epson Pro 4900 and we know it will deliver the goods.
HI, so do you use inkjet or laserjet printer to achieve best photo quality? What are 3 printers you can recommend for achieving best quality?
Boris I use inkjet printers and in my opinion if you buy epson you will have the best.
