Well Nick Rains and I had our first ever Tasmania workshop last weekend Held at the Freycinet Lodge. It was a fantastic weekend with 14 great people and lots of laughs, mostly at my expense but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The talent in the room was unbelievable and I’m not talking about the super fabulous Nick Rains and his Colour Management juggernaut, but the participants who attended.
The weather didn’t play ball for most of the weekend but we didn’t get any rain that stopped us from shooting each day. Some of the images taken were pretty awesome to say the least and you can check out a lot more on Nick’s website
I want to thank everyone who came to the workshop and made it a great time for Nick and myself. It was a group that gelled so well. The lodge put on some brilliant food, those morning and arvo teas rocked. I only have one complaint, I wanted seconds on the scones and you buggers ate them all.
We will be running the same workshop next year in December so if your interested let Nick know.
Steve Pope was one of the participants on the workshop, this is what he had to say.
Christian,
Thanks again for the workshop. I learned so many techniques and tips that it is still percolating down through my brain. You and Nick are fantastic instructors and more importantly wonderfully encouraging to all of us, no matter how talented or not we are.
And I didn’t even have to bribe him to say that.

The landscape image is by Jenny Shorta, a lady with a brilliant eye.

Looks like a great workshop mate… Congrats to both you and Nick
Rod
G’Day Christian,
As always a great workshop, I was glad to be able to make it.
See you in Tas next time you are down.
Chris
Glad you were there too Chris. Definitely give you a call when we are in Tassie next for some shooting. Hope the house construction goes well.
Thanks Rod.
Hi Christian,
The workshop was well worth the trip down. There is so much to Photoshop that I didn’t know and I’m already looking at things differently.
If you are ever in Sunny Victoria, I hope we can catch up for a shoot.
Thanks
Ben
PS. How is the leg?
that is great Ben, it is remarkable how good your images were just using Lightroom. Photoshop will open up a whole new dimension for you. Glad to be able to show you what it can do.
Would love to catch up for a shoot again Ben, good to see someone out there as keen as I am to get photos. You have all the ingredients to become a successful photographer. Cheers and was great to meet you.
p.s. the leg is better, the wrist is causing me some problems though. Apparently they take a whilst to heal.
Christian, thanks again for a fantastic weekend. I am still digesting all the information! The workshop was informative and highly engaging… I think it must have been your and nick’s passion for what you do!
The weather remained pretty sh*thouse for the rest of the week… I made it over to cradle mountain none the less… Here’s hoping I got a couple of keepers..
Tim
By the way, I hope the wrist isn’t too bad from when I crushed it shaking your hand!!!
Hi Tim, bummer about the weather. I heard it was going to get bad again. I hope you got some keepers too. Was great to have you on the workshop and to meet up. Nick and I both agreed it was the best bunch of people we had yet. Everything just went so smoothly. As for the wrist, it recovered from your handshake mate, only just! haha, that is a pretty good grip you have going there. If I have any jam jars I can’t open I know where to go!! Cheers.
Christian & Nick – the workshop was a blast!
Had a ball and learnt stacks – how to focus stack!
I just wanted to say a big thank you for the solid effort that you guys put in. My photography is now at another level.
Looking forward to seeing some more of your Tasmania shots soon.
I don’t know about you but trying to find the time to sort through images is a nightmare! I just posted one from Russell Falls that I took after the course – everything that I learnt went into the image. If you or Nick have any suggestions please let me know.
Off to Margaret River over Christmas and the New Year so I will be sure to drop in to the gallery to check out the latest.
Hi Leigh, yep it is hard to get through the pics. Glad you got alot out of the course mate. Was good having you along. Make sure you say g’day, will buy you a corrrfeee. Will have a look at your pic.
Hi Christian/ Nick, thank you for the fantastic weekend in tassie. It was absolute information overload (in a good way!) and for someone like me who is just starting, I feel very lucky having the opportunity to learn from you two pros. I hope my photos will start to improve from now on so I can make you proud! I am looking forward to another workshop in the not too distant future, I hope. Have a great Christmas and see you next year!
Was great to see you again Irena, you have a good eye. As soon as those photoshop skills start to happen you will be just getting better and better. Thanks for making the workshop one of our best. Have a great xmas, where ever you are in the world. Thank Bruce to for helping out. He was a great assistant for you.
