Seems some people never learn. The EPA said no to the last one now these guys are having a crack. This email was sent out by the Margaret River Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The attached letter (Untitled 0003-6.pdf) was sent to the Shire. It is advice from Western Coal Pty Ltd that they have applied to the Department of Mines and Petroleum for an exploration license in the area immediately north of the proposed Osmington Road mine that was recently rejected by the EPA. The site extends across the municipal boundary into the Shire of Busselton. Other than the map, there is no supporting information. The applicant’s company stamp partly obscures the section of the document that states that objections can be lodged by 18 April.
Given the response by members to our last members survey as regards the proposed coal mine and without a significant change in the Chambers membership that might yield a different result, the chamber feel it appropriate that we lodge a generic objection on behalf of its members.
I have attached and inserted a link to the necessary form 16 (http://www.dmp.wa.gov.au/documents/Form16.pdf) should any member business wish to add to our objection. Though partially hidden by a company stamp the deadline for submissions to be received by the Mining Registrar in Perth is 18th April 2011
Submissions should be sent to the following address;Mining RegistrarMineral House100 Plain StreetEast PerthWA 6004

And Western Coal wants to sell it to China, so any benefit that it might possibly had to Australia will be gone along with the much more important benefit of having the Margaret River region remain a vital ecological and agricultural gem of WA.
Some corporations just don’t know when to stop! There is a good article on the ABC Landline page.
