I love this place, it would be my worst nightmare to stay there but photographically it is very cool. You could probably do some great work of the building and the inhabitants!
Shot on the lovely Fuji X100 handheld.
They must be available soon. Ring Ben at Team Digital to find out where yours is. Mine goes everywhere I go, yes including the toilet! I have to get some crap shots some how!

Cool shot, I know that place
Backpackers like that, albeit slightly less run down, have been my home many many times. I personally in general really like staying in backpackers as long as one picks the small boutique style backpackers, not the big party places. It is a true travel experience, it can be so much fun or it can be like you say, a nightmare.
Studying people and human behavior in a backpackers is a travel experience you cannot get elsewhere. I have met everyone from reporters from Africa to a helicopter pilot to unbelievably stupid and annoying Australian backpackers (sorry to say, but they are just about the worst travelers) to alcoholic creepy crazy people. Usually the smaller the town, the better the backpacker places are where as the ones in Freo, Perth, Sydney etc. are pretty horrible.
I have met the most incredible and interesting people in backpackers and also basically the scum of the earth.
Oh and I so want a Fuji x100 too!
Haaaaahahahahaha
Hi Flemming,
I’ve been traveling around for a little over a year now & I totally understand your rant about the Aussies! 99% are just out to drink as much beer and cause as much mischief as possible!
We are just a little excited to be out of Australia so there’s this unwritten rule that everyone follows that says you must do everything that little bit crazier…
We are also very similar to a disease… They just keep spreading… and no matter where you go you can always find an Aussie somewhere.. usually where the alcohol is.
