Thanks to everyone who took part in our discussion on photography as an art form. What is good what is bad, who is right who is wrong, it boggles the mind. The thing I got that really stuck with me was “be true to yourself” Every time I try to emulate a look of someone else I end up dissatisfied with the result. I am just going to keep challenging myself and hope I get lucky on occasions. In the end as long as I get to do what I love I am a winner. Dark light, gritty smooth, landscape altered landscape, it is all ok and isn’t it great we love different things. This is a great forum and I thank everyone who has contributed to it.
Now this is neither dark or anything new but you know what, it doesn’t really matter because I like it and my happiness is the most important thing, right??? But if Merv gives me a NUP I am going to cry all night.
Shot this from a cool heli trip I did with Dave Bettini and Nigel Gaunt, both good friends and great shooters. What I like is how the car is in the way of the camels and they have had to go around it. It is typical of the Chaos that is Cable Beach at sunset. Ah Broome you have to love it.

It’s an interesting shot that doesn’t say much …… BUT , I actually don’t mind it.
Have to say though that the dots all over the beach bug me a bit.
Dave called in today on his way back from the Nullarbour. He’s had an interesting week.
I love it!! OMG…the detail!!
Hey Merv, sometimes images don’t say anything, they let you try to figure them out. Does the Mona Lisa say anything or is its mystery the point? Also it is a good thing you didn’t NUP this one or I’ll never buy you brekie again!
Christian, I think it is fun. This sure beats riding the buggers, they stink and they spit!
I wouldn’t say nup to this one cause I do like it, plus I’d like you to buy me brekkie again next time we meet.
No , it’s my shout next time Steve.
P.S. We saw the Mona Lisa last year …… didn’t do much for me , but it was a bit hard with 500 other people in the room.
Merv loves really CF , he just can”t quite spit it out……., I think it tells a story and certainly makes you look twice at it. I like it to and I think even with a bit knocked off each side it would work as well.
Must have been a bit further up the beach with only one vehicle by itself, a bit different to when I was last there.
Hope the black dots aren’t camel dung from previous visits.
Nice shot Fletch.
Pity there wasn’t the strong horizontal light in this national geographic shot http://www.nationalgeographic.com.tr/ngm/0502/masaustu/4_b.jpg
As Merv said the dots are a slight distraction.
Get rid of the car and that is a BRILLIANT shot CF! It says everything about Cable beach…… tourist board shot.
My thoughts too, the car needs to go, really love this perspective on a “standard” Cable Beach shot.
I’ve just stepped in the door with about 25Gb of photos from my week in Broome.
I like it and I am glad Merv didn’t make you cry mate! Couldn’t have that now could we!
The car should definitely stay, locals watching the sunset from the 4WD is more a part of Camel beach than the camels (many a times have I conjured up plans to free those camels).
Quite like this one my jedi brother, could do with a nice big gas plant though but that’s coming soon!
Do it flemming….. its cruel.
Do it Flemming….. its cruel hey
I think you’re on the right track when you say it’s all about what makes you happy. It’s fun to explore different styles and see what happens. Using other people’s work for inspiration is a great way to do this. It can get frustrating though if you’re too focused on exactly copying their style though. What happens for me very often is that I start of in a certain direction, and end up with something that doesn’t look at all like what I was going for, but is nonetheless interesting, and something I would have come up with if I just stuck to what I would normally do. It’s all about not taking things to seriously and having some fun. What’s the worst thing that could happen?
Agree with Flemming: the car must stay. It’s the camels having to make a little detour that makes this shot so interesting.
Yep your right, it should be fun and nothing too serious.
well we all see things differently.
