Ok another dark one. What do you think of this? surely it is better than my pine plantation shot. You guys are tough! Thanks for being honest I can take it and would love to hear what you think of this one. I am going through a dark stage again. I already sense a nup from Merv! I will give up if you think I am on the wrong track.

What can i say ….. NUP … sorry.
It is better than the other one , i wasn’t alone there.
Theres a good bit of colour here.
But don’t give up , I sense others will like this.
Naah!
Sorry Fletch Im not a fan. Maybe those gold frames have done something to you mate. Rubbish Bins, Gold Frames, pitch black images….. Im not saying bring back the fletch of old as your moving in a new direction however I personally feel a little too far out of the square
I just went through some of your old pages and I think this style certainly suits your industrial images, ie one of my favourites being the oil tanks in fremantle. now that works a treat. I think it has huge potential with portraits!
Well, you can really tell you used your Phase ! NOT! I can’t tell if it was done with a Kodak Instamatic or the beloved Fuji X100 or what. Frankly, mate, it isn’t there. It sorta looks like the darkest frame for an HDR shot.
*observes and smiles*
Ah yes, June approaches – this must be an APPA-rition.
Very Bill Henson.
This has got the Henson look about it for sure, maybe to much is hidden away ?
No go buddy sorry!!
Sh3t
The master speaks again.
Here endeth the lesson !!!
More intruiging than the last with those clouds but still erring toward the negative…..
Pretty landscapes please ….
News websites are saying there were funnels dropping from clouds around Wilyabrup and Dunsborough – get any photos Christian?

Hi Christian, I think people have got too used to overworked fantasy images, when you give them reality they don’t like it. Apart from the really dark area on the RH side I like it…a lot.
think were being taken for a ride here!
Hi Christian, i think there all being a bit hard on you mate, and dont listen to Eastway what does he know about landscapes!!. Way better than anything hanging in the NSW art gallery Landscape exhibition. Keep thinking dark and grungy!!.
I think I like this less than the last dark one mate…sorry!
Nup from me too…sorry!
nup – try it as a B&W
Wow, tough crowd… Have to admit the pine shot was not my thing, but I actually kind of like this one. I guess most people don’t like change. Definitely keep on experimenting. Curious to see where you’re going with this.
I think the most important thing Christian is whether YOU like it or not. Without going down the route of commercial viabilitity and reality of business etc… I personally think that the only way to explore and determine a personal direction with one’s images is to go with one’s own inspiration and gut feeling, otherwise your direction will be dictated by the masses of opinions.
General opinion is not what makes things stand out from being mediocre…. Dictionary – “via French from Latin mediocris moderate, literally: halfway up the mountain, from medius middle + ocris stony mountain “
Epic fail!! There is no way this will ever sell – mark my words. It’s a dingey bloody mess – looks like the view out of a port hole in the cheapest cabin on a smokey diesel ship somewhere near an island. No awards here ……
haha Muzz you forgot your little avatar!
You know your art ……… you are right, this will never sell, who would even look at it twice.
When are you going to let the cat out of the bag CF and surprise them all with the background to this image!
The news is gonna blow some minds in this forum!
Oh shit – it’s not taken out of the window of the True North is it!!!!
Even more surprising than that Muzz…when he decides to let you know the real gig going on here, you will be blown away!
Already blown
Blown here as well.
But doesn’t change my opinion.
Come on CF…come clean dude!
This print could be worth hundreds of thousands one day – even Bill Henson sells crap for a lot of money, but it don’t make it good. Have you read the $12m Shark yet?
Peter, there a lot of people, sell a lot of crap, for a lot of money.
not yet Pete, but I am fishing for one. Soon as I land that puppy I’m gunna be rich!
If you keep asking people will give their opinions. and if you haven’t started to believe in yourself by now perhaps you need some counsellng…… only joking….. you are an artist so you will never understand yourself.
Oh yeah the picture……. makes Henson’s crap appealing.
and if you are so set on making tons of money do something controversial ….. i wont say it
Don’t say what Hazel? I don’t see the point in alluding to something, and ducking for cover by being cryptic. I’m left wondering who and what you are making a side swipe at; and not knowing any other way to put it – wished you had the courage to say what you meant so I could understand what you were trying to say.
Julie
It was just a joke. No ducking for cover, being cryptic or swipe????? …. just my British sense of humour for which I am not apologising for anymore. I’m quite an honest person…. not that deep lol….. If I want to swipe I will .
Christian has mentioned a few times now about images and money. How surprised he is at particular images making so much money.
I was also just thinking about Henson’s and Sally Mann’s images of naked children. …. both controversial… ….. and that’s why I said…..”I wont go there”….. Henson has been mentioned a few times on this blog lately……I have children so it felt a little wrong to even suggest it.
For me photogrpahry is not all about money. Yeah nice to earn from it but if I can leave this earth and maybe one of my images has made a difference somewhere in the world I will be happy.
Thanks Hazel. Interesting though that you originally chose to only allude to something because it was ‘controversial’, rather than saying it up front in the beginning; and then you explained it further even though you said you had children and it felt ‘a little wrong to even suggest it’.
… Anyway… at least I have a much better understanding now of which photographic artists and type of images you were alluding to in your post.
Julie
Cant help the way I feel about somethings Julie. Most things “controversial” really do not bother me but using naked children to make money…. well that does.
You get no argument from me with that one Hazel …. that is not on.
Just to clarify Hazel – in no way was I commenting on how you felt about something, so it is not at all necessary to defend the fact that you “can’t help the way you feel about something”; nor is my point in any way related to the content of the controversiality to which you alluded to.
My point was that I had no idea what you were talking about and I felt that you were being cryptic rather than saying up front what you actually felt.
In my opinion it would have facilitiated communication if you had included in the beginning the content of what you found to be controversial and your position on the matter – even in your British humour way; rather than just making a couple of obscure references to something to which I had no idea to what you were referring.
I still find it interesting, how it mattered to you in the beginning to not say what you felt because of the nature of the controversiality and your children; yet in a short time you were willing to say what it was that bothered you.
