There goes the Kimberley! Why???? MONEY is the only reason! More destruction of our wilderness by a bunch of greedy individuals. There are alternatives, and yes we can still get the gas and all be rich. Best of all the Kimberley will be spared from this monstrosity.
Woodside chooses Montara oil spill company as joint venture partner for Browse Basin drilling program
As Woodside’s PR campaign to win local confidence over its plans to develop the Browse Basin hits top gear, they may have hit an obstacle in choosing the company responsible for the 2009 Montara oil spill in the Kimberley as their joint venture partner for a proposed drilling program in the Basin. Now that is a good move! Way to go, I wonder who thought that was a good idea?
Paul Thesiera is doing a great job of mustering up people to come on the Bike to Broome awareness ride starting on the 21st of August. We are needing more people to join in to either ride or offer support to the riders. I will be riding, hopefully shedding some kilos and would love to see more people who care about the Kimberley. Paul also needs donations of money to help fund the ride so any pledges should be made to him via his website. Let us know if you can be involved, it is going to be fun and the cause is very worthy.

What are the alternative ways to get this gas and is there a way you can let Bob Brown push back until these better ways are done?
And by the way, glad you and not me will be donning the spandex or lycra for the bike ride. I, like Merv, would end up looking like the Michelin Man, or 3 kilos of mince stuffed into a 1 kilo sausage casing. In other words, not pretty!
The alternative is to pipe the gas down the coast to the Pilbara, where there are already gas processing facilities. My idea would be to use the old HBI site in Port Hedland. It is just the beginning of the end for the Kimberley.
Indigenous owners dragged in tears off their land. It seems a repeat of past events, what a sad sad day. This is the beginning of the end for the Kimberley as Jamie says.
Nigel emailed me today that they are not quite through yet to JPP, the bulldozers are about 10ks short. Nigel also posted today: http://reddirtphoto.wordpress.com/2011/07/05/riot-police-in-broome/
If I was there I would ride with you guys! I’ll see what I can do to help from here.
Looks like political incompetence is the flavour of the month right now! Lets just go down the easy path seems to be the answer to everything!
Reckon your right Mark, Pollies and people in general are to spoilt and out of touch these days and really couldn’t give a shit as long as they are all right jack.
Images from the police breaking the blockade http://www.savethekimberley.com/wp/2011/07/05/police-attempt-to-break-blockade-update-day-30/ A very sad day. Heartbreaking to see lawman Jo Roe in tears having been moved off his country by the police. The country that he as the traditional owner is responsible for and must protect.
Since no final decision has been made, how is it legal for Woodside to wish to drive bulldozers through and start testing the soil? If I wanted to drive a bulldozer around the Kimberley could I? Probably not, but then I am not mega rich Woodside.
As for politicians, they are an easy target and it is too easy to just paint them all with the same brush. I do believe that a society has the politicians they deserve. Crap politicians means not enough people in society care about politics. Crap politicians means you must get more involved and vote some better into office, it means you must be more demanding of your politicians, ask better questions, become better informed. Your politicians reflect society, they are your responsibility as you (well majority anyway) voted them to make decisions for you so pointing fingers in effect points the finger at yourself.
Btw I believe Churchill said that democracy is terrible and the worst form of system possible…except for every other system out there
He also said you’ll love democracy until you spend 5 minutes with the average voter
At the end of the day, politicians in Australia have lost the respect of their constituents, which in turn creates a situation where people don’t give a toss. Who do you trust?
All I can ask is that all WA voters choice a different party to vote for at the next election.
The WA government are run by the big corporate giants like Woodside, BHP etc. their donations to the various electoral campaigns ensures that they get what they want when they want. The mining giants of WA have way too much power. As for Barnett, he just wants a moment of glory. We should build a statue of him at JPP and tell Woodside to piss off! I could live with a statue of Colin but i couldn’t live with the massive gas hub that they have planned.
