This isn’t the best image I have taken but today at Sugarloaf was pretty epic. The swell was the biggest I have ever seen there. Shooting conditions were appalling with strong winds and the salt spray coated everything. Luckily I had a plastic bag to cover the Phase with and an old polariser for the lens. For those who have been to Sugarloaf Rock, that is just about everyone! you would know how huge it is. The spray was going higher than the rock. It was just brilliant to watch.

Thats Wild!
WOW !!!!! Thats awesome, i can imagine trying to get a shot would be trying to say the least.
Would love to see some VID of it.
It’s coming Merv….Didn’t bother covering the 5D and the lens was Team Digitals 50mm Zeiss. Dunked the lot in a bucket of fresh water when I was finished. Sorry Benno. tee hee!!!!!!!
Excellent …. I was hoping you’d say that.
That is a crazy huge swell. Only if you know Sugarloaf will you know how massive this is, quite awe-inspiring.
that is huge mate ive never seen it that big
Awesome indeed and Mike I’m looking forward to seeing that footage for sure :O
That is surely a big swell little buddy
Gobsmackingly awesome. I haven’t seen fury like that since Claire found my secret lens purchase on the Visa statement! It would be good to see it against a shot from the same place on a calm day – people who haven’t seen this rock may not realise the enormity of it. If only there was something there to give it scale – a bin, or a shopping trolley or something …..
i wish i had time to see it. grest shot
madness, never been there but it looks huge!
I bet the ground was shaking! Hey True North Mark, why weren’t you surfing it?
because he would no longer have been True North Mark, it would have been Truly Dead Mark!
Might not be one your best but I think its great because it is totally different to all the others out there. It starts to look small with waves like that battering it.
Thats pretty impressive, would love to have been there to see that size swell passing over it.
Dan
Whoa! Some serious wave action going on here… Love the color treatment as well. Would have been great if one of you stood on top of the rock for a sense of scale
Very curious to see the video now.
WOW that is Huge swell, Sugarloaf is so high that just ridiculous.
I’ve swum across to the Rock and climbed to the top so I know how high those waves are!!! Bloody hell!!
you should have filmed it, would have put Likky to shame!
Almost as big as Christian’s ego now that he’s won Grand Poobar of the year!
nah impossible to get that big Tommy!
In the words of George Costanza (Sienfeld) The sea was angry that day my friends.
Holy cow.
Todays swell is bigger. Any photos?
didn’t get down there Haydn. Will have a look tomorrow. It is just so windy!
Great Shot Christian.
I sent the last couple of days in your neck of the woods, my first visit in fact, I guess I didn’t chose the best of times. Anyway in for a penny in for a pound I was also at Sugarloaf with my Fuji’s and let’s just say, it wasn’t a good time for long exposures. Hopefully some creative wind protection might have helped get something.
Hat off to you and the Phase on shooting that shot in those conditions!
It was pretty awesome to see hey Nick. The salt spray combined with the wind made it just so hard and a bit on the worrying side when you have a Phase One kit exposed to the open ocean. It was like it was raining salt water!
IMPRESSIVE ! ! ! Great explosions there mate
