I have developed a HDR look that doesn’t use Photomatix or The HDR feature in Photoshop. The best thing about it is you only need one image and you don’t end up with all the problems associated with HDR, noise and fringing. And no it isn’t tone mapping of a single image. I took this photo today at a place called Mount Duckworth in Yallingup. This is a sculpture that is in a field at the top of the hill, can’t really call it a mountain!
If you want to find out how I do this you better sign up for my Photoshop workshop being held at Team Digital on the 29th of October. Send me an email to book your spot christianfletcher@westnet.com.au

Pick me, Pick me, I want to know hahaha, does it involve freaky details?
nope, no Freaky details!
Nah, count me out. Still photography is so yesterday – video is the future!
Hrmm Dam u Fletch, always coming up with new shit, I’m still getting my head around the last w/shop haha. Your like the Mad Scientist of the photography world. Guess i’ll have to wait till karijini
hehe Muzzy, you been hanging with my bro too much.
Sheldon, happy to fill you in at Karijini. If I don’t keep coming up with new stuff, no one would come to see me!! This is a cool technique that works pretty well.
How you liking the IQ180??? Silly question? Just watch those dust spots on that massive sensor!!
Damned if I know how you do this! Unfortunately I cannot attend any workshops anywhere, let alone in my favorite country, so I guess I’m outta luck.
Excellent technique, mate!
the hdr effect is called buying an IQ180 that has a massive dynamic range haha!
Nah, im guessing its to do with some mad luminosity masking skillz
good guess Matt but no!! And yes you don’t need HDR with the IQ180. keep guessing, It isn’t hard to do!
expose for the sky then ramp the fill light slider in raw haha…
shadow/highlights tool in photoshop…
using a flash when you took the shot…
thats all my guesses, other than simply masking in different exposures manually, but you said it was a single shot..
haha that always works Matt, NO
No Shadow/highlights, no flash, single shot, no freaky details, those of you who have done one of my recent workshops may know. The plot thickens!
overlay and multiply layers blended in selectively?
How recent – Bunker Bay 2011? What page of the manual is it on?
dig it up muzz haha
some overlay but doesn’t that increase contrast? Warmer.
It is over several pages Muzz. Multiple techniques.
ok, screen layer blended selectively into shadows, and multiply/darken layer blended selectivley into highlights…win yet?
plus some dodging and burning with 50% grey soft-light layer
close but you will never get it, the only way is through the oracle of Fletch!
Ooh, ooh, I know, I know…
When you say multiple techniques, you mean like you do more than one thing to the image? Now you’ve really lost me! You’ve come a long way since Bunker Bay – Nick has really dragged your skill level up hasn’t he
Smart object? TNFP!!
Shot through the very fabric of a legendary iTNFP shirt draped over the front of the lens.
Otherwise maybe it’s something to do with neutrinos travelling faster than the speed of light. Funny that these two discoveries are so close together…
Sorry Markie no ,but can be a good technique.
Stakky you have it, it is all about the Neutrinos !!!
Double Raw conversion – Has to be! Used as a smart object. One standard raw conversion….other with heaps of contrast and fill light. Then mask that one in for the detail/fill light in the rock!
nope, you guys will never get it. Only when you complete a Fletcher Freaky workshop will all be revealed.
When are you and Nick releasing the Geeky Freaky Photoshop Actions palette for sale – it will be a winner for sure.
in production now mate!
Every time someone produces an HDR image in Photomatix, a baby seal dies somewhere. I am certain of it. Photomatix is pure evil.
Best of luck selling your CFHDR filter to the masses my friend, you seem to have hit upon a gold mine of interested punters
haha couldnt agree more Flemming, I spew a little bit everytime I see a Photomatix HDR shot…i think this graph sums it up quite nicely

love it!
yes it is evil and yes it is killing baby seals! and not to mention some pretty good photos.
PHASE ONE IQ180 – PHOTOMATIX KILLER
Baby seals are yummy! Ban naugahyde and save the baby naugas!
