Well PODAS starts tomorrow. I flew into Queenstown across the mountains covered with snow and thought to myself, this is going to be one amazing trip. I met all the Phase One crew and took a look at the cameras everyone will be getting. They approximate we have almost $2 million worth of camera gear with us. We had dinner and took a few shots from the balcony of our house we are in tonight. To say the views are out of this world would be an understatement. Boring sky tonight but we are getting some weather on Friday and Saturday. Looking for some drama.
This shot was taken from our deck overlooking Queenstown. Notice how much detail you can extract from a RAW IQ180 file. The before shot is almost black in areas, should I say “All Black” whilst in NZ. Kevin Raber showed me an amazing tip for getting detail out of the shadows in a RAW file using Capture One. I will be using it in the future now, thanks Kevin.
OK it isn’t the best image but how’s our view hey and how good is the detail in the file that we couldn’t see. Excuse the subtle halos around parts of the image, it is almost 1 in the morning here and I should be trying to sleep.

You sound like a kid on Xmas eve CF, Have a great adventure and don’t forget to impart some of your knowledge on the others at the gig. To say I’m envious would be a complete understatement.
Yes, sounds like you drank too much red cordial and ate too many little red sausages at the get together. If you’re having this much fun looking off the balcony, I can’t wait to see what you get out and about – hopefully at least one shopping trolley.
Is Ken doing a Christmas song this year – maybe you could do a duet
Tell Kevin Hi from me, mate. Like Muzz says, stay away from that red stuff. Nasty hangovers.
I don’t think I could stand a duet with CF and KD, especially in lycra!!
You’ll love the Capture One, and the scenery will be primo too.
Enjoy Queenstown, its a great place, I have just got back from a week there and I had weather…so could not get up into a helicopter…hope you fair better. Couldn’t get over how light it was until 9:30 so I guess it will be lots of late nights for you and the crew.
Hey mate!
Did you let your hair grow long for NZ? I saw you in the PODAS Blog shot and thought you were going Samson on us. Just so long as Jen is Delilah, eh?
