this is short video from Michael, I think he will be very upset if the 5D kicks butt and makes all his equipment obsolete! This is the first time I have embedded a vimeo video into my blog.
New For Sale Page added
Hi Guys, I have added a new page to my site “For Sale” . If you have anything to sell email me the details and I will put it on. Think of it as our own free classifieds for gear in Australia. You will see I have my Imacon in it already. As it sells it will be taken off. Cheers
PhotoCoffee
Kingsley from PhotoCoffee has posted some photos from the AIPP conference at Bunker Bay if you are interested in how much fun we had. Check out his site PhotoCoffee you might even see me in there somewhere, oh how luck you all are! Kingsley was on one of my earlier courses and runs a very successful photography business in Rockingham.
Brush with fame
A little while ago my kids and I were listening to our favourite Australian band Cog. Shay started a little drawing and wrote the bands name on the top of the page and wrote the line from one of the songs Bird of Feather. He then drew the guys in the band playing their instruments. As a proud dad I told him that Cog would love to see his drawing so we posted it off not thinking much would come of it. Anyway I got a message to ring this guy Luke, I know some Lukes but man did I get a surprise when he said “it’s Luke from Cog”. How cool is it that with all their success that they would respond to a 4 year olds drawing. I think that is probably why they are doing so well, they respect their fans and give their time freely. A good lesson for all of us BTW. They are going to send Shay something so he will be very excited. Actually I’m not sure who will be the most excited. Anyway if you like your music a little on the harder side and like music that is meaningful and well written you better check them out. If you wonder what music I listen to when I’m shooting you will find out. Cog will be playing in Bunbury in a couple of weeks, don’t miss them.
Don't Forget This Friday
I’m running another course this Friday night. I only have three people confirmed so far so it is going to be pretty intimate. I want a few more so if you want to come and join us let me know asap this week.
Pano shot with 400mm
This is the first pano I have shot at 400mm. Not only that, it was handheld, forget the 360 precision head and forget PT Gui it was stitched in photoshop. Still, it has taken me all afternoon on my laptop. Now I know what Matt Lauder is on about when he does the house work in between stitches! Makes me realize how hot the Mac Pro is. This orchid was begging for a shot but I wasn’t going to go to any effort to get it. I actually had to get out of the car for this shot, bloody roads not pointing the right way!!
One of the Sheep
Another drive by shooting, this time in Bridgetown. Fuji and I got up this morning and drove to some of WA’s prettiest towns in search of some killer pics. All shots were taken at iso 400 and handheld from the car window. I only got out to pee!! Have to love this way of shooting. Got about 200 pics all different, all winners…………well maybe a few. These sheep looked great hanging around this tree, managed a few pics as they walked off.
Fuji the Wonderdog
This is the first shot taken with my new 400mm F5.6. It would have to be Canons ugliest L series lens but you can’t argue with the quality. This pic was handheld and shot at 800 iso. Not to shabby I think. This lens will have me shooting from the car window for years to come. Bought it from PRA, got a good price too. Speak to Brendan if you want one for yourself. Will report on the AIPP conference at Bunker Bay and the amazing photographers I met soon. P.S. isn’t our fuji a great looking dog!
The West Australian
For those who saw the story in the West Australian on what the premier gives to visiting officials, I just want to say, I did mention the word crap but didn’t think I would be quoted word for word! I don’t ever think I have seen the word crap in the paper before and it is funny the only time I should see it was from a quote of something I said. My poor mum couldn’t believe it! I guess I won’t be selling any books to the new premier now!!! Ahh CRAP !!!!!
Michaels New Video
new video Go to this link to watch Michaels new video in high def. He has used his new Leatus adapter and my 50mm lens. The look is fantastic. Check it out.
What are we doing???
This is a pic taken in Port Hedland when I was attending the workshop. Paul, Dave, Grant and myself got up early to get a train shot. There had been a big fire in the distance at the rubbish dump and the smell of chemicals in the air was overpowering. I love taking photos of these industrial wastelands but it always makes me think of how we are stuffing up this planet. I can’t complain though, I like my toys and cars as much as anyone and this will continue to happen as long as there are people wanting the “finer things in life” I just wish I wasn’t such a hypocrite and could really back up my thoughts. Oh well, I guess we are all stuffed! See you in oblivion! Shot with the 50mm, 6 image stitch, one gas mask and lots of friendly banter between photographers!!
Cockburn Ranges, Kimberley
This is a new pic from the trip to the Kimberlies taken when we were staying at El Questro. I got up way too early again and ended up driving for about an hour in circles waiting for the sun to come up. This range is beautiful and so photogenic. Would liked to have had a little more focal length to fill the frame more but it will still look good as a massive print. Taken with the 50mm. I created the warm brown tone in photoshop with a solid colour adjustment layer.
Seventh Course date 26th of September
I am trying something different and running the course on a Friday night. If you are keen to get on this one let me know asap. I am also offering a refresher to people that have been on a previous course to sit in on this one only, at half price, i.e. $125. Time to brush up on some skills to get ready for some Spring shooting.
The sixth course was run on Saturday and it was another fun filled night of laughs, usually at me not with me!!, and some learning, I hope. Remember everyone, if you have any questions please ask them on this blog. Everyone benefits from the answers. Thanks for being a great group.
Boy Band
Whilst we were in Port Hedland the other three photographers were working on their new hit single “Lovin Port Hedland” You should have heard it. Would make a grown man weep! Luckily I had blocked tear ducts and could only manage the face contortions!! These guys rock. Fan mail can be uploaded to this blog, I am their manager. Next port of call, the Karratha RSL.
