The workshop for the 22nd and 23rd sold out in record time. Because Nick is flying all the way over we have decided to put on another date very close to the first Bunker Bay workshop. We are now taking expressions of interest for this second workshop at the Bunker Bay Resort. Email me if your interested. christianfletcher@westnet.com.au
The Government Set to Steal James Price Point
http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2010/09/02/3000587.htm?section=justin
Of course they know what is best for us and the environment! I’m heading to JPP and should be there by the start of October. I am driving up with the family so we can all see it before it is ruined. I hope to come home with some nice photos of the place. It is one part of the Kimberley Coast you can get to easily. If you want to see more you need to go by boat or Helicopter. So now this “unremarkable place” is going to be even more “unremarkable” thanks to a big polluting gas plant. Why can’t they ship the gas to Dampier? Can someone tell me? There has to be a good reason right, it can’t be the cost, surely not? That would be minuscule compared to the money they will make from the project. Does anyone in the government really believe that a huge gas plant won’t cause any environmental damage? Am I wrong thinking it will? Hey I’m no expert, but I guess the government has unbiased environmental groups providing them with the relevant information, right? Do you really think Barnett looks at himself in the mirror? I do when I’m brushing my teeth! And does he really sleep at night knowing the environment won’t be harmed in any way? I guess he must or he would be making stupid decisions every day! Phew, one thing I am glad about is all the extra tourism it will bring to Broome, hang on, I mean fly in fly out workers! Sorry they aren’t tourists, they are there to work. I think some big high rise buildings along Cable beach would be perfect to house everyone. I love that look! It is a shame that the price for the tourist to stay in Broome will go up too, just like in Port Hedland and Karratha. So hang on who is going to win from this? Well I guess we all will, well some of us, maybe just a few. Hey I would be buying some Woodside shares right about now, imagine how much money you could make! Hey don’t feel bad about the gas plant, it’s just a few small acres of land and the 20,000 odd whales zipping by every year can just go have a baby somewhere else. They don’t own the ocean you know, they just lease it off us, we own it and we can screw it how ever we want. Whales are overrated anyway, tourist don’t want to see them, they prefer oil slicks and industrial oblivion. Hey I for one think this is a brilliant idea,go for it premier, youdaman! Lets see what you have done so far.
Barnett believes that if Western Australia handed over 30% of the only GST revenue it receives it could eventually lead to the federal government being able to acquire 100% of the state’s GST revenue. There’s that word again, acquisition! No you can’t do that, that wouldn’t be fair.
In October 2004, Barnett led a campaign to re-criminalise homosexuality for anyone under the age of 18. Phew, for a minute there I thought Tommy would have to put his Pink feather boa away!
In October 2009, Barnett announced a series of new policies relating to drug legislation including a repeal of the Cannabis Control Act 2003. The previous laws were formulated by Geoff Gallop’s drug summit, taking input from experts such as academics, police, social workers, lawyers, medical professionals and members of the public. Barnett has stated it is his intention to overturn these laws because of HIS BELIEFS and stated that the drug summit members made a mistake introducing them and that cannabis was a “gateway drug”. To help with the enforcement of this new policy, Barnett also supported legislation to give police the power to search and seize property without any suspicion or belief that a crime has been committed. A Liberal parliamentarian, Peter Abetz, voiced support for these laws in parliament by drawing reference to the work Adolf Hitler did to bring security to Nazi Germany. Barnett stood by Abetz’s statements, saying he was making a valid point. Haha what a beauty, security to Germany but not to the rest of the world!
At the 2005 state election, Barnett, proposed the construction of a canal from the rivers of the Kimberley Ranges in northern Western Australia to Perth to meet Perth’s growing water supply problem. The proposal was costed by Barnett at AUD $2 billion, however it soon emerged that no feasibility study or detailed costings had been done. Some experts put the cost as high as AUD $5 billion. Oopsy, that was a bit of a blunder!! So he does his own calculations. Hang on, does he do his own environmental studies too? Hmmm, nah surely not!
Don’t panic people, we are in safe hands!
Lake Ballard Overview
This is my take on the view overlooking Lake Ballard. I have come up with a new technique for adding a tone and contrast at the same time and it is completely editable so it is easy to fine tune. This tone can bring an image to life. Again I have a very light sky as opposed to the heavy dark ones. I like it for a change. This pic is almost 3 metres wide at full res. Another one I did with the gigapan is just under 5 metres wide at full res. That is big!
This image would do well in the Landscape 500 Photo Competition. Enter here.
Denis Glennon’s Safari to Botswana
Follow the link here to join Denis on a journey to the Okavango Delta in Botswana
Botswana’s Okavango Delta is remarkable because it is a wetland paradise in the middle of the arid Kalahari Desert. Each year floodwater flows into the Okavango from over 1000km away, creating a unique wetland that sustains a mesmerizing variety of wildlife. Without this water, the area would be as featureless as that of the surrounding Kalahari Desert.
Instead, it is one of the most sought after places in the world for wildlife and nature photographers. It is a shimmering, matchless watery jewel in the midst of inhospitable surroundings. It’s flat, wildlife-packed expanses are awash with African colours and vistas. For most photographers wishing to experience one of nature’s “untouched” jewels, this part of Africa is unsurpassed.

5D and Final Cut Training @ CFPI Dunsborough
Hi Bloggers it’s Mike Here. You know the not so famous twin who shoots a bit of video with the 5D MK2. I’m wondering if any of you guys are interested in a course run by Apple guru Stuart Harris regarding the 5D and how you produce and work your video through to a final edit through Final Cut Express/Pro. Yeh!! I know you still guy’s don’t rate us video guy’s but with the video capabilities of the 5D wouldn’t you like to know how to make some money from it? Hey if I new that it would get Christian off my back.
Brendan is looking to run a course in Perth at PRA and whilst Stuart is here I’m going to try and whisk him off to Dunsborough to run one down here. Now I’m sure Brendan can fill a course in Perth but is there anyone interested in traveling to sunny Dunsborough for a much nicer experience?
Can you please leave an expression of interest on this blog so we can see if we can do something. It would be a waste not to get involved with this Guru from Apple as he taught me two things I didn’t know at PMA in about 10 minutes. Now if he can just teach me how to make money?????????

Hi all, thanks for your comments on this possible competition. To make it all work I need to get at least 140 people to enter. The entry fee will be $50 and that allows you to submit 4 images, so 4 chances to pull off the big prize. What is the big prize? Read below
Welcome aboard the magnificent True North in magnificent Sydney Harbour. Enjoy a sumptuous dinner as you are treated to an evening cruise on one of the finest harbours in the world!
Day 1
New Years Eve

Then enjoy a leisurely cruise to Middle Harbour before taking up one of Sydney’s best vantages to witness the Harbour Bridge fireworks display – Happy New Year!
Day 2
After an early morning cruise along Sydney’s revered northern beaches – enjoy breakfast in the beautiful surrounds of Pittwater. Morning activities will include a walk to the Barrenjoey Lighthouse, beach combing and a scenic cruise past the Pittwater Yacht clubs. There may also be a chance to walk from Longnose Point to Flint & Steel Bay through the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park – Australia’s second oldest national park.
A helicopter flight to the Hunter Valley and wine tasting at our feature winery is sure to be a cruise highlight!
Whilst you are enjoying lunch the True North will cruise to Maitland Bay. Enjoy a swim or a bush walk through the surrounding national park. Sunset drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served on the beach before an evening cruise to Jerusalem Bay.
Day 3
Wake up to the shrill of the Jerusalem Bay cicadas. Join the crew for a bush walk along the Jerusalem Bay Bush Trail or head out in the tenders for sight seeing and swimming. Then savour a lunch on the sparkling waters of Cowan Creek, or join the heli-flight to the Blue Mountains and enjoy lunch at Echoes Boutique Hotel – 2007 winner of “Restaurant of the Year”!
In the afternoon the True North will anchor at the mouth of the mighty Hawkesbury. From here we head out to Glenworth Valley for your choice of horse riding, kayaking, abseiling or quad bike riding. Or, maybe a visit to a local oyster farm is more your style?
And in the evening something special – a live band to make your last night onboard a night to remember!
Day 4 The True North will cruise back into Sydney Harbour for 0800 disembarkation.
So that is the scoop on the major prize and remember it is for you and a friend, would be a great place to propose or maybe that second honeymoon or just take your mother (if you have no mates). I will be getting some other sponsors to get on board to offer a range of other big prizes so your chance to win something would be pretty good. Forget the APPA’s this comp will deliver, no printed certificates just kick @r$e prizes.
As it stands now we have had roughly 50 people put their hand up to enter, this is without knowing the cost to do so. So we need another 100 odd so if you have any friends that might like to enter and you know there is know way in hell they will beat you get them to express their interest.
So what do I get from all of this, nothing but peace, love and harmony.
Cheers
Interview with Brent Pearson
This is a short interview with the man who has perfected night photography. Sorry about the sound quality. Shot this at Jurrasic Park and the swell was pretty big, hence the noise.

Workshop with Scott Kelby
Check this out guys and gals, Mark has asked Scott Kelby to run a workshop on True North, now that would be an must do cruise. Will let you know if it comes off. I hope it does. See Marks email to him below.
Hi Scott,
I put a post on your blog, but after cruising through your website I found that you had a direct contact address, so I though a direct and more detailed approach would be more appropriate.
I am both a passionate photographer and a Director of North Star Cruises Australia. See: www.northstarconsultants.com.au for some background on me.
My partner and I own one of the largest adventure cruise vessels in Australia and we are certainly the most awarded. We have 3 National Tourism Awards under our belt and 5 State Awards and boast the most awards of any Cruise company in Australia.
The cruise vessel is called the True North and is a 50m (165 ft) vessel designed to be able to getting into shallow areas with 36 guests and 18 crew and we carry 6 x 6m tenders with a full time Bell 407 on board. See www.northstarcruises.com.au
We cruise all around Australia and up to Papua New Guinea. The North West of Western Australia is the main area we cruise and the area is called the Kimberley. It is truly the last frontier!!
I have been working with Christian Fletcher for the last 6 months who is one of Australia’s best photographers and a great guy to boot! He is coming on board the Kimberley trip 13 in August departing on the 29th of August and the theme of the cruise will be ‘immerse yourself in photography’ for 2 weeks!! Christian is a big fan of yours…as I am. Through his workshops he sells heaps of your books. See www.christianfletcher.com.au
Now to the idea!! How would you and your wife like a 2 week cruise on the True North to join up with Christian on a photo tutorial cruise? Probably this year’s will be too short notice for you, but we will be running one next year as well. Christian’s cruise has been very popular and we feel that we will theme up more cruises from here on. Probably next years will be either West Papua, or PNG proper.
Mind you if August is of interest to you yell out and we could lead off with that and maybe another one next year…your call!!
I don’t know if you have ever been to Aus, but I can assure you that you won’t be disappointed!!
We could start off by staying a few days at True North Ashore down near where Christian lives: see www.truenorthashore.com
I won’t go into any more detail with this first email, but I guess that if you read the email and want to know more, you will come back to me and ask some questions and we can develop things out from there. I am a very lateral thinker and we can do anything really…thinking outside the box is my specialty…hence this email I guess!!!
Cheers,
Mark Stothard
