I have spent the last few nights mucking around with another illustration. Thought I need to knuckle down and do some portraits. I took a photo of Jim on a NZ PODAS workshop a year ago and always liked the look on his face. Thought it would be a good place to start. Getting the skin texture right is so hard. I didn’t even attempt it, well I actually did but it wasn’t working. As a result, I took 10 years off him! You own me a beer Jimbo.

Another in the 2am series! So good when you wake up and don’t feel tired.
This shot I really like as it is very understated as far as lightning goes. Sort of like a shot of a dolphin without seeing it jumping out of a wave, less cheesy! I might even hang this on my wall. Of course you can too………………….. for a price!
And anyway talking about Facebook…………………… never felt so good without you! The blog is back!! Why did I ever leave?

Who ever said the Phase was no good in the dark! I couldn’t sleep the other morning and drove off at 2.30am to get some shots of the lightning. At iso 35 and an exposure not longer than about 2 minutes it is perfect.

A rare opportunity has surfaced to see in person the one artist who I have so heavily relied on for music in the last two years. English cellist Joanna Quail is coming to little old Dunsborough and will perform a one off show in a picturesque part of the South West. Those of you who have been to the South West Light workshop and exhibition will know her music so this will be a great nights entertainment and something unique for this region. Visuals captured from The Pilbara Project and recent South West Light will also be projected on multiple screens to enhance the experience. There will be limited invites for this free event so if you are interested you need to get in quick. The night is on the 18th January and the details will be given to those who request an invite. Please read the attached flyer for more information. Also attending will be myself, Christian Fletcher, Nick Rains, and Tony Hewitt. Hope to see you there.

I was wanting to put together a series of clips to compare the natural world to the man made one and how our actions are harming the very environment we require to exist. I realised I didn’t have enough of a convincing message with the footage I had taken so this is what the end result is. It more a showreel of some of my filming over the last couple of years than anything. Hope you like it.
All shot on Canon cameras including the 5D mk2, 5D mk3, and C300. See if you can tell which is which…..
Music is by Hans Zimmer from one of the greatest music scores ever for the movie “The Thin Red Line”[vimeo]https://vimeo.com/54863583[/vimeo]

It is funny where you go in your quest to create an image. I have taken to drawing images these days. It is something I want to explore more and more. Photography is still a big part of what I do but I can see a time where my work is split between that and painting.
The creative challenge continues.
