One thing I love about shooting places that don't look that interesting is when you find an image that works the reward is so much sweeter. It is more likely you will capture something unique as the photographic world hasn't been shooting it to death. I think the search for a great photo is like the search for a perfect unridden wave. That feeling of making a unique discovery is what keeps me going.
