LOCATION: Wilson’s Promontory, Victoria

DATES: Friday 18th March to Monday 21st 2011

LEADERS: Tom Putt and Christian Fletcher

TIMES: This workshop begins at 1pm on Friday and concludes at 12pm on the Monday afternoon.

PREREQUISTE: Introduction to Digital Photography Workshop (or a basic understanding of your camera and photography).

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW: Come to Victoria’s most popular national park, Wilson’s Promontory and photograph with two of Australia’s most prolific landscape photographers, Tom Putt & Christian Fletcher. Staying right in the heart of the national Park at Tidal River, you’ll spend 4 days exploring this area. With a mixture of outdoor photography and indoor shoots, this workshop offers a variety of different teaching methods and learning opportunities in this one-off workshop. Don’t miss out!

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: In this workshop you will learn the workflow from capture to print of two of Australia’s leading landscape photographers. Find out what makes a good composition, how to work with the available light, then what to do with it in post production to get professional looking results. Have you ever wondered how to get the richness of tone and contrast, of colour and clarity that the pros get?!!? We will show you, and all the tricks and secrets that most photographers keep to themselves. Christian and Tom are both highly successful practicing photographers and this workshop would suit anyone wanting to move up the photographic ladder to those keen amateurs just wanting to get the best from their cameras.

SUITABLE FOR: Photographers who want to capture the spectacular landscape of ‘The Prom’, particularly sandy beaches, rocky outcrops and coastal vegetation.

WHAT TO EXPECT: A typical day starts with an early rise for sunrise, followed by breakfast back at the lodge, a day walk exploring the magnificent scenery around Tidal River, followed by a sunset shoot.  Dinner follows then a critiques with wine in hand.  Long days but this is a very practically based workshop where there’s plenty of practical one-on-one tuition.

WHAT TO BRING: Camera, tripod, gadgets (because all photographers love their gadgets!), Compact Flash Cards, Camera Bag, your laptop computer, Power cable for laptop, Card reader, Hat, sunscreen, Thermals, Walking boots, Clothes (inc warm ones), Rain Jacket, umbrella, Toiletries, Head torch, snacks, anything else that is vitally important that is not on this list…

Two new Workshops – Book now

1 Dec 2010 at 1:14pm

Nick Rains and I are holding two more workshops next year. The details are below.

Click here for our Mornington Peninsula workshop

Christian Fletcher and I will be presenting another of our intensive photography workshops in March 2011. This time we will be holding it in Victoria, on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula just one hour from Melbourne. It will be on the weekend of March 5/6.

The intensive weekend workshops we have been conducting around the country have proved to be very popular and we get a lot of excellent feedback. We have been looking for a suitable location in Victoria and have decided that the Mornington Peninsula provied what we need to put on a successful workshop.

Whilst our workshops are classroom based,  we do go out shooting on the Saturday and Sunday mornings.Within a short distance are beautiful beaches, interesting rock formations and the wonderful lines and shapes of the numerous vineyards in the region.

Christian and I will present eight seminars, four per day. We will cover all aspects of our photography and will share with you, in detail, many of the techniques that we use. Nick will cover the essence of landscape photography, colour management, raw shooting, and image sweetening. Christian will demonstrate his Photoshop mastery and the many ways in which he creates his amazing images.

A full itinerary of the two days can be downloaded here.

The cost is $995 and includes morning tea, full cooked lunch and afternoon tea on both days. Sign Up for this Workshop

The intensive weekend workshops we have been conducting around the country have proved to be very popular and we get a lot of excellent feedback. We have found a fabulous venue right at the edge of the Grosse valley, about 500m from Evens Lookout. It’s an ecolodge called Jemby Rinjah and it’s buried in the forest with lots of beautiful trees filled with birds. When the mists roll in it is quite spectacular. Fortunately it’s also very cosy and has a big log fire in the main room – we are doing the workshop in June so bring your woollies!

Our workshops are classroom based, but we do go out shooting on the Saturday and Sunday mornings. It’s a very short walk to the amazing Evans Lookout, and if we get the misty mornings that the Blue Mountains are known for then we will be in for a treat. Right next to the lookout is the track down into the Grand Canyon and if you spend an  extra day in the area this would be a superb walk to do. It’s a tough one, with some serious stairs to ascend at each end, but it’s one of the best walks in the Blue Mountains.

Nick will cover the essence of landscape photography, colour management, raw shooting, and image sweetening. A full itinerary of the two days can be downloaded here. Date is June 18th & 19th 2011.

The cost is $995 and includes morning tea, full cooked lunch and afternoon tea on both days. Sign Up for this Workshop

The venue has offered an accommodation package for three nights (Friday to Sunday nights) for $458.50 including all meals so this is a really good deal. Call Wendy Cowan on 02 47877622 at Jemby Rinjah for bookings.

We have had bookings for both workshops already so make sure you don’t miss out.

Don’t miss this workshop. Tom has been there many times and will show us around the Prom. The emphasis will be on shooting with classroom lessons in between. I will be teaching my workflow and photoshop techniques including the secret sauce that everyone is looking for.

It is going to be a fun 4 days as both Tom and I are extremely funny, well we think so! If you don’t get our jokes then you don’t have a sense of humour!

And yes the Pink Feather Boa will be out. You will be able to look but not touch!

These are two images I took about 10 years ago at the Prom and yes they were shot on film. Not too bad actually.

Bunker Bay workshop

1 Feb 2010 at 1:30pm

Well the Bunker Bay workshop went of really well last weekend with all of us having such a great time. The people who came along to learn some new tricks with the camera and computer were very kind to us and when ever it got too technical I handed over to the only guy I know who almost knows as much as the great Les Walkling, Rainsy !! Nick blew all our minds with his knowledge on Lightroom and the intricacies of colour management. I followed with my signature Luminosity Masks and got labelled the short cut king by Nick. We worked really well together I think and complimented each others workflow and style.

The students were fantastic and a great bunch of people to get to know. Remember if your still having some issues let Nick and I know and we will help you out. Due to the success of this workshop we will be running more together in the coming year so keep an eye on the blog. If you want to get on my mailing list let me know, this workshop filled up fast and we expect it will do so again for the next one.

Thanks to Denis for supplying the photos for this blog post, really appreciate you sending to me.

Cheers
CF

p.s. the top photo I was telling Nick who was looking a lot like Eminem that you only get ONE SHOT and the bottom pic Nick was demonstrating how big the files from the P65 really are!! Then they all got me painting trees for about an hour, that was fun!
