Yesterday was the second heli picnic at Melaluka falls. Flying in we spotted this lower falls and walked down to get some shots. It ended up being an epic with water crossings and bush bashing the order of the day. If only we were there at sunset for the magic hour!
At 3pm today we hop in the helicopter again and camp out at a remote waterfall and swimming hole somewhere up the Sale River. Looking forward to being under the stars and getting some awesome light. Clouds are already starting to build up so fingers crossed for an unbelievable sunset and sunrise.
Tomorrow it is Montgomery Reef.

This is another view of the amazing location Markie and I found. All around this area is like ancient ruins. Amazing huge rocks and waterholes. It is paradise for a landscape photographer. These cliffs are actually really high. Not for the faint hearted. It was a pretty hard core scramble and on more than one occasion I had to check I had that spare pair of undies in my camera bag. We shot till it was almost dark but still had to get back to the beach on the other side of this headland. It was getting pretty hard to see as I touched down on flat sand and relative safety. It was worth it though.

Shoot in Black and White and point the camera towards the ground. We have been out in some awesome landscapes but if the light isn’t doing it, it can still be hard getting a great shot. Still it is always possible to get a photos of something. Saw some great rock art today and tomorrow we hit King George falls. Did I mention I caught my first Barra yesterday. The one I lost was close to the magic 1 meter mark, that thing was a beast, glad it got off though, would have been a shame to kill something so awesome.
The trip will be ending soon, I think I might leave with a tear in my eye. The crew are amazing and work so hard, we don’t do Jack!!! In fact if you asked nicely they might even wipe your bum for you so you absolutely don’t have to do anything.!!!
Had a heli picknick at Eagle Falls today, wooooowww, it was the best.

For those of you wanting a magazine full of great tips and tricks, not to mention some mint photographers, check out the summer edition of Better Photography Magazine. Ok when I talked about mint photographers I was referring to myself!!! There are a couple of other dodgy shooters in there too like Tom “Tommy” Putt (the prettiest man in his own lunchbox) and Matt Lauder (who makes Tom Putt look like Elmer Fudd). This is Peter Eastways magazine if you didn’t already know, probably the second greatest photographer to ever walk the planet! Who is the greatest I hear you say? Well work it out people, it isn’t rocket science………………..!!! 🙂
