Urban Exploration with the Quattro

Urban Exploration with the Quattro

Tony Hewitt and I had a very successful Workshop on Saturday starting with a 6.30 walk around the city to find all those elusive but highly rewarding urban images we love to shoot. The participants on the workshop got some great images and we all soon realised just how much fantastic material was there. After that we had a nice breakfast and then it was on to Team Digital to do our classroom presentations.

It was a fun day out for everyone and there were lots of laughs as well as inspiration, ideas and techniques to take home.

Keep an eye out for our next excellent adventure.

Siem Reap, Cambodia Workshop 13 – 19 October 2014

9 Jun 2014 at 11:57am

Siem Reap, Cambodia Workshop 13 – 19 October 2014

Come with Nick and Christian for 6 nights as they lead a group of “Tomb Raiders” deep into the jungle of Siem Reap in Cambodia. Think Indiana Jones meets The Big Bang Theory! Two self confessed geeks exploring the only way we know how, with cameras in hand and a luxury hotel lounge to unwind in at the end of the day. I know, we do it tough! We will be visiting all the temples not just Angkor Wat and will be taking in street photography around the Old Market area. This should be on everyones bucket list.

This will be a photography trip to remember.  There will be danger (you might spill a cocktail on your laptop), drama (Nick likes to sing and dance), spectacle (Phase One ,Leica shoot out) but most of all awe inspiring images (mine of course).

We will take small group, only 8 people, so whilst the emphasis will be on shooting during the best times of the day, we will still have plenty of time to work one on one with each of the participants to help refine their images.

Price will include all meals,  luxury accommodation, transport, tuition and best of all, our jokes!

I am taking expressions of interest with three spots already spoken for you might like to get in quick. Send me an email christianfletcher@westnet.com.au if you want to be considered.

News and Updates

23 Jan 2012 at 12:58pm

Thanks to everyone that attended the workshop with Nick Rains and myself last weekend at Bunker Bay. It was great fun and I hope you all learnt a great deal about getting the best images possible. Keep an eye on the blog for our new workshop announcements and if you want to get on my mailing list please let me know.

Next week I will be in South Australia shooting with the new Fujifilm X-Pro1. I will be reporting on my findings so make sure you tune in to read all about it. I will be going with my bro, who will be filming the whole thing, Kevin Cooper from Fuji, who happens to be a great shooter as well and Michael Coyne, legendary photojournalist. The guy has done some amazing work. See his website here I have to say this camera looks pretty exciting, and what I have heard so far is going to be a game changer.

The next South West Light trip kicks off in a couple of weeks and the boys will be over to create some amazing images. This will be our last shoot before working on finalising an exhibition date and location. We also hope to publish a book of the images which is going to be spectacular to say the least, I am biased!!!

Update on Emails I just have too many to get back to everyone, if I haven’t replied to you please don’t take it the wrong way, I read everything, just don’t have enough hours in the day. So sorry if you are one of those people.

Other Workshops Coming up – Don’t forget the ultimate workshop aboard True North in April this year. See my blog post here for details.

The Eve of PODAS

29 Nov 2011 at 7:39pm

Well PODAS starts tomorrow. I flew into Queenstown across the mountains covered with snow and thought to myself, this is going to be one amazing trip. I met all the Phase One crew and took a look at the cameras everyone will be getting. They approximate we have almost $2 million worth of camera gear with us. We had dinner and took a few shots from the balcony of our house we are in tonight. To say the views are out of this world would be an understatement. Boring sky tonight but we are getting some weather on Friday and Saturday. Looking for some drama.

This shot was taken from our deck overlooking Queenstown. Notice how much detail you can extract from a RAW IQ180 file. The before shot is almost black in areas, should I say “All Black” whilst in NZ. Kevin Raber showed me an amazing tip for getting detail out of the shadows in a RAW file using Capture One. I will be using it in the future now, thanks Kevin.

The RAW shot

The Worked Shot

OK it isn’t the best image but how’s our view hey and how good is the detail in the file that we couldn’t see. Excuse the subtle halos around parts of the image, it is almost 1 in the morning here and I should be trying to sleep.

Karri Valley Resort – Masterclass with Tony Hewitt

The venue for this Masterclass is one of Western Australia’s hidden jewels of tranquility   Karri Valley Resort, Pemberton.

Nestled on the edge of trout filled Lake Beedelup and surrounded by majestic karri forests, the natural charm of Karri Valley Resort provides the perfect setting for the theme of this Masterclass No. 4 – “The Hidden Dimension”.

Accommodation for participants has been reserved in the best Lakeside Rooms, with private balconies overlooking the lake and forest. These are twin-shared rooms. Those wishing to have a private bedroom may stay in the chalets set in the forest, at no additional cost.

Photographers residing close to Karri Valleyand who do not require accommodation, dinners etc., may register for the Masterclass lectures and photographic shoots only. A reduced fee applies for this option.
