This weekend was dedicated to learning dye sublimation. Thanks to Ben from Team Digital who came down and spend the weekend teaching us and doing profiles for the printer. Luckily our kids are teenagers now so were quite happy we were distracted and they could stick their heads in a screen non-stop!!

So what are you doing next Tuesday the 18th?
I am having an exhibition of work I have shot on the Phase One IQ180 back at Team Digital. I am making “GIANT” prints hence the name. Come along and see the quality for yourself. All the work is for sale at a very exclusive “exhibition only” price.
There will be nibbles and drinks provided and it will be a night to immerse yourself in the detail you get using a medium format camera system.
If you can’t make the opening night the prints will be hanging till the 26th of July so you will have time to check them out.
Hope to see you there.

Well if you are wanting the camera system you can take to the grave with you you might want to have a look at this.
The boys at Team Digital have some super specials for you. I wish I paid this much for my kit, doh!!! Anyone on the edge of considering a Phase kit this might be the one for you. I know your out there. I love my Phase One, more than I have ever loved any camera. It is the ultimate. The only excuse you have for bad shots when you own one is your own average ability. If you really want to know you suck get a Phase, then you know it wasn’t the camera!
See the deals here http://www.teamdigital.com.au/blog/2012/10/20/ex-demo-phase-one-specials/

I’m finally back from the North West of WA. Time to catch up on emails and bills etc. The real world isn’t for me I decided. Much prefer to be off in the bush taking photos. Work sux!!! I guess it has to be done though and I shouldn’t complain, it isn’t that bad, is it?????
Now the first thing to mention is my new Photoshop Workshops happening in Perth in May. See below for all the details. Make sure you get in quick for these.
Late in May I will be in Melbourne for the APPA judging and PMA. If you get a chance make sure you get along to see all the latest gear and inspiration from the APPA’s. I will be doing a presentation for Phase One and also spending time talking to people about the Fujifilm X-Pro1 at the fuji stand. Come along and say hi if you are in Melbourne.
I mentioned before my new Spyder 4 Elite. I have just got a “New” ipad whilst in Perth. Peter Eastway and I went into the heaving Perth store and both got sucked into buying some gear. You just have to love how Apple does it. I think there must be some allegiance to the devil when you buy Apple gear. It is like the forbidden Apple way back in the times of Adam and Eve. You just want it soooo much. Well at least I do!! Must be the metal I listen too that makes me susceptible. Anyway I can profile my ipad with the Spyder 4 and that will be my task tonight after the kids are in bed.
Don’t forget the other workshops I have coming up with Nick Rains. We have some spots for Port Douglas and Tasmania but our Home Valley Station workshop is now full. I am sure we have a standby list though.
In December I will be running a PODAS (Phase One Digital Artist Series) workshop in New Zealand with Peter Eastway, Jackie Rankin and Mike Langford that promises to be awesome again. Last year it was unbelievable. Can’t wait to get back there.

The Photographers cut of the Pilbara Project is now on at the Midland Railway worshops. Make sure you get down over the next few weeks to check out work from Tony Hewitt, Peter Eastway, Les Walkling and myself. Along with that is work from 56 other photographers from around the world including Art Wolfe. It is an epic exhibition.
Speaking of Art Wolfe. Make sure you get along to see him speak. All the details can be found here I will be there.
I had just received my brand new Datacolor Spyder 4 Elite unit to calibrate my two monitors. Well make that 4 monitors. It will actually correct your iphone and ipad too. How cool is that. I am going to do it later today so stay tuned for my thoughts.
All the photographs that are in the Pilbara Project exhibition are printed on possibly the sexiest paper I have ever used. Cansons Platine Fibre Rag. It is a cross between a matt paper and a semi gloss. It has a slight weave in it and prints so beautifully. Les Walkling made an awesome icc profile for it and I have now found my most favourite ever media. Benny from Team Digital is getting me a 17″ roll so I can print my APPA entries. Thanks to Canson and Kayell for their support with our exhibition.
Team Digital have just released a rechargeable battery for the Phase One 645DF body. I have one to trial but at last we have a solution for the battery issues. Thanks Team for finding this. Anyone with a Phase camera body will be wanting one of these.

I thought now that I am officially back to work I better post something. This shot is from the devastation the fires had on the coastal dunes in Margaret River. It is totally gone and what is left is an eerie moonscape. It will take years to recover. It is like this from Ellensbrook right down to Redgate. Incredible no one was killed.
Shot on the Phase One IQ180, edited on the Wacom Cintiq 24HD, my dream rig. I have to give the demo Cintiq back to Team Digital but a shinny new one is coming very soon, I hope, right Benny??
I must say the image quality of the Cintiq is awesome, for those wondering if it is any good. I don’t notice anything too different to my Eizo monitor and what I see on my screen matches the print perfectly. Still I haven’t hooked up the Eizo monitor to compare them side by side yet. Will do that when my own screen arrives. To be honest, I could do away with the Eizo and be perfectly happy. Still who wouldn’t want two screens???

I have developed a HDR look that doesn’t use Photomatix or The HDR feature in Photoshop. The best thing about it is you only need one image and you don’t end up with all the problems associated with HDR, noise and fringing. And no it isn’t tone mapping of a single image. I took this photo today at a place called Mount Duckworth in Yallingup. This is a sculpture that is in a field at the top of the hill, can’t really call it a mountain!
If you want to find out how I do this you better sign up for my Photoshop workshop being held at Team Digital on the 29th of October. Send me an email to book your spot firstname.lastname@example.org

I bought one of these Graflilites the other day from Team Digital so I could properly assess what my prints look like under better lighting conditions. Using this light the print and the monitor matched even more closely. Fantastic device and the only thing to have when doing up your award prints. I have the Mode.
